Aberfeldy’s ‘Thyme Bistro’ named ‘Best Restaurant in Scotland’ by Slow Food in the UK

We are hugely thrilled to announce that our very own Thyme Bistro has been named ‘Best Restaurant/Eatery in Scotland’ by ‘Slow Food’. The award recognises the Bistro’s commitment to exceptional quality across our food offering, using sustainably farmed livestock, promoting locally-sourced produce, and supporting local suppliers. As you will know, the Bistro is situated just outside Aberfeldy, here on Errichel Farm, which was declared Scotland’s Number 1 Food Tourism location at the high-profile Scottish Thistle Awards earlier this year. Once a ‘fine dining’ restaurant, Thyme Bistro has evolved considerably in recent years, a process lead by Paul. The Bistro now opens exclusively during the day, and is open to all, for breakfast, brunch, lunch, or coffee and cake whilst taking in the Tay Valley views. Sunday lunch has become a customer favourite, with Paul’s team calculating that they have baked and served over 2000 Yorkshire puddings so far in 2023! Paul said – ‘This award wasn’t something we went through an application process for, so it was a complete surprise when the announcement was made. We’ve been passionate supporters of the ‘Slow Food’ movement for many years. They believe as we do that a great dish is made before the ingredients even enter a kitchen. Thyme Bistro is now a lot less formal, but we’ve tried to keep the quality of the food as great as it ever was. Having that recognised by an organisation that we value so much makes this a particularly special one for me.’ Founded in Italy in 1989, Slow Food is a global, grassroots movement with thousands of members around the world that links the pleasure of food with a commitment to community and the environment. The recent Slow Food UK awards celebrate the rich food traditions of the different nations that make up the UK, and recognises efforts to protect the UK’s edible biodiversity.
